Certain Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans to accept 5010-only transactions

Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans in Illinois, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas is planning to transition to HIPAA version 5010 transaction standards. Please note the following important dates and details associated with this change.
  • Effective 8 p.m. on May 3, 2012, these health plans will stop accepting 837 claims in version 4010 and accept only version 5010 claims.
  • Effective May 12, 2012, these health plans will no longer send 835 electronic remittance advice transactions to receivers after the May 11 remittance cycle. They will send only version 5010 claims.
All providers using version 4010 should contact their practice management system vendors, billing agent and/or clearinghouse to confirm timely adoption and system compatibility with the new 5010 standard.
